Grandpa John Parsell, 1924 to 2008
John V. Parsell Jr., age 84, of Harpster, Ohio died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at his home.
John was born on April 29, 1924 in Marion, Ohio to John V. Sr. and Luella Mae (Bear) Parsell, both of whom are deceased. He then married Henrietta J. (Soule) Parsell on February 14, 1946 in Meeker, Ohio and she died on November 6, 2001.
He graduated from Meeker High School in 1942 and then joined the Army Air Corps. He served in the 15th Air Force - 463rd Bomber Squadron where he was a Radio Operator in a B-17 flying over 50 combat missions from North Africa and Italy.
John retired from McIntosh where he was a Production Supervisor; previously he worked as an agent for R.E.A. Express for 34 years.
He is survived by two sons, John L. (Jo) Parsell of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Mark A. (Hellowee) Parsell of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Marsha (Jim) DeGoode-Dunbar of Tiffin, Ohio, Mrs. Elaine (Mark) Woodrum of Prospect, Ohio and Mrs. Jane (Steven) McPherson of Morral, Ohio. John is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Also surviving John is a brother, Richard (Jo) Parsell of Caledonia, Ohio; a sister, Patricia Gaines of Shaker Heights, Ohio; and a special friend, Pauline Layne of Marion, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Johnathon McPherson; and a brother, Theodore Parsell.
John attended First Freewill Baptist Church in Marion, Ohio and was a former member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God in Marion, Ohio and attentded Trinity Evangelical UMC in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He had been active in the Full Gospel Businessman Association, a former Harpster Village Council Member and was on the Angeline School and Industries board. For hobbies he enjoyed vegetable and rose gardening, US military history, and planes.
